The Anchor

Web Assistant

I recently had the opportunity to redesign and update The Anchor, Hope College’s student-run news platform.

With this project, I focused on creating a cleaner, lakeshore-inspired aesthetic that reflects Hope’s identity while improving overall usability and navigation. I worked to simplify the site structure, enhance visual hierarchy, and create a more intuitive browsing experience so readers can easily engage with weekly articles, opinion pieces, and newsletter content.

In addition to visual updates, I prioritized readability and accessibility. Ensuring that content feels approachable, well-organized, and consistent across devices. The redesign also supports the editorial team by making it easier to manage and publish content within WordPress, balancing both user experience and backend functionality.

The Anchor is entirely student-driven and funded through the Hope College Student Activities Fund, publishing content weekly online and through its email newsletter. Contributing to a platform that amplifies student voices and storytelling made this project especially meaningful, and I’m grateful to have played a role in shaping its updated digital presence.
