Study Room

Hope College · Project

Study Room was my first published website, created in Fall 2024 during my sophomore year of college. The original live site is no longer available, but the project remains a research-informed study tool designed to enhance memory retention by simulating major-specific study environments. The concept is rooted in the idea that recalling information becomes easier when learning and testing conditions closely resemble one another.

By allowing users to choose a study room that aligns with their academic field, the platform creates a more immersive and intentional learning experience. This project challenged me to think about how environment, visual cues, and context can subtly influence focus, motivation, and recall.

The tool also incorporates active recall techniques by prompting users to summarize what they learned after each session. Designing this feature helped me better understand how digital interfaces can encourage reflection and deeper learning rather than passive consumption.

With features such as an adjustable timer, reset functionality, and dark mode, Study Room offers a customizable study experience while reinforcing my growing interest in user-centered front-end design and tools that mirror real-world testing environments.

Through this project, I practiced building responsive layouts using semantic HTML and custom CSS, with a strong emphasis on spacing, typography, and visual hierarchy. I learned how small design decisions— such as line length, contrast, and rhythm—can significantly impact usability, readability, and sustained focus.
